Abel Makkonen Tesfaye a.k.a The Weeknd is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer known for his falsetto and eccentric music style. His music genre includes pop, folktronica, R&B and etc. He began his recording career in 2010 by uploading his songs anonymously on Youtube. In 2012, he signed a contract with Republic Records and in three years, he released his second studio album, Beauty Behind the Madness, which won Best Urban Contemporary Album and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2016 Grammy Awards. With more than 75 million records sold globally, he is known as one of the most successful Canadian recording artists of all time. In 2020, he released his album, After Hours and one of his hit singles is "Blinding Lights"





Blinding Lights was produced and written by The Weeknd with producers Max Martin and Oscar Holter with, Belly and Jason Quenneville that was released on November 29, 2019. The song embraces on 80s vibe. It received widespread critical acclaim. The song has 291 million views on Youtube and is named the best song of 2020 so far by Billboard. It won Best R&B Video and Video of the Year and was nominated for six MTV Video Music Awards. 

The song is an ode to a love that is lost. It is about a vulnerable person and became emotionally dependent on his romantic interest. "'Blinding Lights' [is about] how you want to see someone at night, and you’re intoxicated, and you’re driving to this person and you’re just blinded by streetlights, but nothing could stop you from trying to go see that person, because you’re so lonely", according to the singer/songwriter. 



The Weeknd performed Blinding Lights live on the 2020 MTV VMAs. The performance was extraordinary; it added fireworks and helicopters that became the video artistic. The viewers applauded the singer for its outstanding performance.
