TREES BY JOYCE KILMER
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
But only God can make a tree.
GOD’S REPLY TO THE POET (response)
A tree with leaves made out of love
So blessings rain from up above
I am the creator of all
Trees sway and dance to heed my call
The trees may bend with my command
The vast and colored pretty land
So far and wide this land shall strive
All it need is your love and time
For it to grow abundantly
And to see it blooms wondrously
I gladly this give this gift to thee
A precious tree coming from me
